Send a Kid to College Fund

Send a  Kid to College Fund

I know it's been a while since I've blogged anything. I won't lie... I got lazy and also very work weary.  I'm still reading books.  I love to read.  I am not a rich person.  I am getting further behind in paying the bills.  However, I have two sons that are attending college.  FAFSA grants / scholarships are great, but I did learn that it does not cover all of the expenses.  I just got a bill for the uncovered portion of the expenses.  Holy... and if you happen to have bad credit, in this economy, well, getting a loan is impossible. I need to raise money to cover this expense.

Enough whining now. I came up with an idea to raise the much needed college money... t-shirt designs.  I thought it would be a great idea to create a few t-shirt designs and sell them.  If everybody would buy just one t-shirt then my sons can continue going to college.  The idea also came to me, "What if EVERYBODY bought one t-shirt?" I would have a huge excess of money.  I could create a college scholarship fund with the excess.  I heartily believe that our children are our future.  We have to invest in them in order to make the future brighter.

So, what do you think?  Would you help to send a child to college? I'm working on an on-line store that would offer my t-shirt designs.  Check back soon and check it out.

MONSTER HUNTER INTERNATIONAL

MONSTER HUNTER INTERNATIONAL, written by Larry Correia.

My son recommended this book to me.  He knows I love to read.  He knows that I do not like to waste my time reading a boring book.   This book has a wonderful first paragraph that grabs my attention and holds it.

On one otherwise normal Tuesday evening I had the chance to live the American dream.  I was able to throw my incompetent jackass of a boss from a fourteenth story window.

Now, how in the world can anybody pass this book up with those opening lines.  I know that everybody can relate to this.  Who hasn't had an impossible or very difficult boss?   Well, that opening paragraph got my attention and over the next few chapters it has held my attention.   I'm only up to chapter 4 and can hardly wait to read more.

Actually, I think I won't wait any longer.  Gotta go! I have an adventure to read.

Happy Reading!

CHOCOLATE CHERRY DUMP CAKE

My all time favorite cake is the Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake.  It is very simple. It only requires three (3) ingredients and to me it is the most amazing cake.  I hope you try it and love it just as much as I do.

CHOCOLATE CHERRY DUMP CAKE

1 box Chocolate cake mix
2 large Eggs
1- 20 ounce can of cherry pie filling .

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a bundt cake pan with cooking spray.

In a mixing bowl dump in the chocolate cake mix, eggs and pie filling.  Mix well with a mixing spoon. The batter will be thick.

Pour the batter into the pan and bake for approximately 30 minutes.   Cool in pan for 10 minutes and then remove your cake from the pan and let it cool on a cooling rack.

I love to frost this cake with a dark chocolate frosting.  The cake tastes wonderful even without frosting.

NOTE:  You can use whatever shape cake pan you wish.  I have made this cake for my family and friends over the years and it never fails to get a positive response.  If you don't like chocolate (gasp!) or if you don't like cherries then this cake is very versatile.  You can use whatever cake mix and pie filling you want.  Have fun with it and Happy Baking!

AUTHOR: DIANA GABALDON

I have another favorite author, Diana Gabaldon.  She has written, so far, seven books based on the same characters, along with books based on a side character, Lord John.  The following is a list of those seven books:

OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN
THE FIERY CROSS
A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES
AN ECHO IN THE BONE

I have read each of the above listed books and yes, I can hardly wait for the next one. Each book is quite thick, a lot of pages, and all based on the same characters.  She does introduce new characters along the way. This is a wonderful idea so that the reader doesn't get bored with the same characters. Gabaldon has a unique way of writing that keeps the reader engrossed in each story.

It is best to read each book in order; however, the way that Gabaldon writes, each book can be read as a stand alone book.

As Gabaldon states each book includes:

"History, warfare, medicine, sex, violence, spirituality, honor, betrayal, vengeance, hope and despair, relationships, the building and destruction of families and societies, time travel, moral ambiguity, swords, herbs, horses, gambling (with cards, dice, and lives), voyages of daring, journeys of both body and soul…"

I have read each book and each book does indeed include all of the above.  I heartily recommend reading any and/or all of her books.

Happy Reading!
